That all changed recently when I tried one of their Rice Mac & Cheese microwave meals…. Before I go into my review, let’s find out a little more about the brand.
Amy’s Kitchen is a family business… with every member of the family taking part. The company was started in 1987, when Amy was born. Her mom and dad, Rachel and Andy Berliner, carefully nurtured the company as well as the child, paying constant attention to every aspect of its day to day activities and providing the vision that has made Amy’s so successful.
At Amy’s Kitchen, we make food in much the same way as you do at home. We start out with the freshest, organic vegetables we can find. We purchase high quality pastas, grains, beans, and Red Tractor assured dairy.
We make everything by hand. Our sauces are prepared in stages; first by heating oil, then adding aromatics and followed by fresh veggies and tomatoes. All the ingredients cook slowly until they reach their fullest flavour.
Amy’s Kitchen produce non gluten free as well as gluten free products and here’s what they have to say about their gluten free range:
We realise how hard it is for people with special dietary needs, like coeliac disease, to find good tasting meals. We also know it is especially hard for children to avoid traditional favourites, like macaroni & cheese.
Amy’s Kitchen has always been sensitive to the needs and concerns of our customers; that’s why we have developed natural, organic, gluten free versions of our favourite dishes. Our Gluten Free Rice Mac & Cheese, Gluten Free Vegetable Lasagne and Gluten Free Bean & Cheese Burrito taste great and contain only the highest quality ingredients that will easily fit your lifestyle. We hope you enjoy our food, and we welcome you into the Amy’s family!
So, how does their Rice Macaroni & Cheese rate? Very highly!!!
The Amy’s Kitchen website describes this product as ‘gluten free macaroni style rice noodles covered with the same smooth cheese sauce that has made our Mac and Cheese so popular’.
Microwave meals should not taste as good as this product does! It only takes a maximum of 7 minutes to cook from frozen in the microwave, or 30-35 minutes if you’d prefer to oven bake yours. Given the short cooking time this would also be a great meal option for children that have gluten intolerances or coeliac disease.
In just a short cooking time, the cheesiest and most indulgent meal is created!
I view this meal as a quick option, so microwaving it works perfectly for me, although cooking it in the oven would probably create a crispier topping.
I could probably create my own gluten free macaroni cheese, but I doubt it would ever taste as good as this version!
Having been on the Amy’s Kitchen website to do a bit of research for this review, I’ve realised quite how many gluten free products they actually have! I think I need to try to find as many of these as I can, as if the rice mac & cheese is anything to go by, their other products will also be amazing! 🙂
Have you tried any of the Amy’s Kitchen gluten free range? What did you think? Which ones would you recommend? Please let me know by leaving a comment below! 🙂
